I love Grease. I played Danny Zuko in my school production, I always watch it when I see it on TV, and I get a joy out of seeing it on stage no matter how good or bad it is.
At the 48th Tony Awards, Victor Garber (who was nominated for Best Leading Actor in a Musical for his performance of Mr. Applegate in Damn Yankees…which explains why he is dressed as a devil) introduced scenes from the 1994 nominees for Best Revival of a Musical. One of those nominees was the 1994 Broadway Revival of Grease which was directed & choreographed by Jeff Calhoun (Newsies, Bonnie & Clyde, High School Musical) and associate choreographed by Jerry Mitchell (Legally Blonde, Catch Me If You Can, Hairspray).
From the hula hoops, seat choreography, choir finale, and random finger fireworks, the Grease performance has something for everyone!
The show featured many prominent performers during its four year run including Megan Mullally, Rosie O’Donnell, Brooke Shields, Hunter Foster, Billy Porter, Sutton Foster, Marissa Jaret Winokur, and Lucy Lawless. The revival ran for 1,505 performances.
