Thomas Tony Tuesdays – Dreamgirls

You can’t write a blog about the Tony Awards and NOT mention the 1982 Dreamgirls performance. Arguably one of the best performances ever given on any stage, Jennifer Holiday gives a tour de force and demonstrates why she won the Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical for her portrayal of Effie White.  Holiday is one of those talented actors who has the vocal prowess to impress the pants off the audience with her riffs and tricks but always manages to justify the use of them as acting choices that further her character’s story. “You’re gonna loooooooovvvvvveeeeeeee….*DEEP BREATH* MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE”!

My only qualm with this performance was the choice to bring in the three girls at the end…so not necessary…let Jennifer shine!

P.S. Love the random old guy reading from a book in an office chair before the performance. Who is this guy?
