Our picks for SummerWorks 2015!

Are you festival-ed out yet? After Panamania, the Fringe Festival, Luminato, giant music extravaganzas like WayHome and Field Trip, and smaller festivals popping up all the time – could we possibly be seeing Peak Festival?

 NO WAY! Because the 25th annual SummerWorks festival is coming up, running from August 6 to 16, and there’s always more time in the day for SummerWorks. Lots of Acting Up Stage’s friends and colleagues have played in the SummerWorks pool of new and boundary-pushing work – and this year is no different. Here are a few of the more musical offerings at SummerWorks 2015 that we can’t wait to catch. More


Video Roundup: Happy Pride!

This past week has seen a lot of great moments for the LGBTQ community and their allies – the U.S. legalized gay marriage country-wide, Toronto saw its own Pride festivities reach all-new heights of fun and celebration (not to mention a mayor that actually stuck around for it!). Then, Canada Day let us celebrate this great country that allowed gay marriage nationwide a whopping ten years ago.

But celebrating tolerance and human rights shouldn’t be relegated for only one week every year, or for rare law changes – play these musical showtunes every day, and be your best, truest self all the time!

The Wild Party wins at the Doras!

Once again, the Toronto theatre, dance, and opera community gathered to celebrate all the great work made over the past year at the annual Dora Mavor Moore Awards!

We had a whopping 8 nominations (!) in the Musical Theatre Division for our production of The Wild Party this past winter and were lucky enough to see two of our colleagues walk up on stage and give their thanks.
