Music is a key element in any musical theatre show, but in our family rock musical Bremen Rock City (currently playing at the Palmerston Library Theatre until July 14), music is also a central theme. Michael Jeter was a fantastic musical theatre performer and won a Tony for his work in Grand Hotel. He is most well known to audiences for his portrayals in films like The Green Mile, Miller’s Crossing, and Sister Act 2. In this Tony performance, Michael Jeter completely takes over the space, inhabiting it like a second skin. He’s one of those actors who seems to make every right choice, while still surprising you. According to Canadian Actors’ Equity Association, in 2011, 4,083 members worked under contract with 81.8% of them working as performers. The mean annual income for Equity members that year was $9,410. Lots of people want to be performers. But lucrative, it is not.
As such, I was deeply saddened to say goodbye last week to Stage West in Mississauga. More
